Moldavite is believed to have been formed when a large meteorite crashed to the Earth about 14.8 million years ago. Moldavite is classified as a Tektite, a natural ‘impact glass’ formed when rock & soil from Earth is melted by the incredible heat & pressure generated when a meteorite impacts. In the case of Moldavite, the Tektites landed & scattered largely over the Czech Republic & also to a lesser degree in Germany & Austria.
