Anubis was the Ancient Egyptian God of death, the afterlife & mummification. He is depicted as a man with the head of a jackal or a black jackal/canine in its entirety. The black is representative of rebirth, regeneration & the fertile soil of the Nile. Anubis protected graves & the dead, was an embalmer & guided souls into the afterlife. He weighed the hearts of the dead against the feather of truth in the Weighing of the Heart Ceremony to determine if their soul would be permitted into the underworld.
