One ancient legend tells that a Storm God became jealous of a Rainbow God’s beauty. The Storm God broke the rainbow & tiny pieces rained down on the Earth to form the beautiful rainbow flashes or fire, that we see within an Opal. This fire is symbolic of our own bright inner flame. Opals are stones of intuition & psychic awakening that have been used to invoke visions by native cultures. They are said to help us release inhibitions, stimulate inspiration & creativity & bring about positive change in our lives. Opal is said to aid with memory, loyalty, fevers, infection & eyesight.

Caring for Your Ethiopian Opals
Treat your Ethiopian Opals with lots of love. They are special pieces created by nature for you to treasure. Avoid water, soap, chemicals, perfumes & hairspray on your Opals. The old saying of ‘last thing on, first thing off’ applies to these stones. Wait until after hair, makeup & perfume is applied before popping your jewellery on.
Beautiful Ethiopian Opals are a little different from Australian Opals & should be treated with care. They are known as “hydrophane”. They will absorb water or liquid like a sponge & this can alter your Opal. Avoid submerging Ethiopian Opals in water. If this does occur, allow the stone to air dry only. You may see a loss of fire & change of colour if they are wet, which will usually return once the Opal has dried. (The longer they have spent in water, the longer the drying time. They may dry near instantly or, if the Opal has absorbed a large amount of water, it may take weeks.)
Soap, perfume & cleaning solutions should absolutely be avoided on your Opal. When absorbed by the stones they can cause permanent discolouration. If your Opal is exposed, rinse with warm water & wipe with a soft cloth, then air dry.
Wipe with a soft cloth after wear & a damp cloth if required.
Most importantly – LOVE & ENJOY your gorgeous new piece!
